When Ben was about 4 or 5 he was invited to go to the beach with his friend's family on Saturday. On Saturdays we had spaghetti for supper so he wouldn't be home to eat with us. He was picked up to go and about 5 minutes later they returned. I figured they'd forgotten something but it turned out Ben was so upset about missing spaghetti that they had to bring him home.

Grief knits two hearts in closer bonds than happiness ever can; and common sufferings are far stronger links than common joys.
